Final Series on Wood Appliances
All about Regency wood stoves.
Last week we talked about Regency wood stoves in regard to clearances. With double wall flue pipe installed, clearances can be very close to combustibles. What other things are great about Regency Wood Products?
- All their products are EPA approved. This means they meet stringent standards for efficiency along with low smoke emission.
- They are all non-catalytic meaning no expensive catalytic combustor to replace.
- Secondary air wash system is used to keep the front glass clean.
- Available in basic black cast iron door or beautiful 24k gold door complete with lifetime warranty, against tarnishing for life!
When these stoves are running you can actually see super hot secondary air coming out baffle tubes in the top. As the smoke rises up and heats these very hot tubes the hot air combines with the smoke and the results to the eye is flame shooting out of the air parts. It is an interesting site as it looks like a propane BBQ running when it is combining smoke into heat.
Smoke is really unburned wood. When a wood fire is started, combustion is not very thorough resulting in a lot of smoke being produced. As the process keeps getting hotter and with some very hot coals underneath the wood begins to burn cleaner with less smoke. Finally in the final stages of combustion the wood is slowly transformed into coals and then ash where combustion is as complete as possible. Next morning there will be enough heat still in the ashes to allow new kindling to catch on fire to build the fire for the next day.
Maintenance Required
All solid fuel appliances require some maintenance. The gold door needs polishing every 3 months to maintain a high polished look. The door and glass gasket needs to be checked and if fraying needs to be changed. Operating a wood air tight appliance with pieces of the gasket missing will result in loss of control and reduced efficiency as excess air will enter the stove and allow too much heat to escape up the flue.
