How BBQs have improved over the years, from the Hibachi to the modern natural gas grill.
Well, man has come along way from his beginnings in cooking food over an open fire with all of our modem cooking appliances, but many of us still agree the smell of the barbecue is an irresistible aroma!
Barbecues have indeed evolved since the 1960's when the term Hibachi were used which was simply a cast-iron or aluminum grate over a pot that you put charcoal in and lit.
Once the charcoal fighter fluid burnt off the flame would disappear and the charcoal would burn with a smokeless appearance and the coals would slowly turn white.
While an Hibachi cooks food, it is virtually not seen nowadays. It is too small, takes too long, is too dirty and just not elegant enough for us sophisticated people nowadays!
Hence, the gas barbecue has grown in popularity to the point nowadays that only a few people do not own one! Models are available in propane which dominated the earlier market and so the models grew more complex and especially large in terms of gas consumption, the Natural Gas models began appearing.
Today at the Comfort Shoppe, out of the 150 units sold annually, 65% of them are Natural Gas. Why get one of these?
Well those are some of the main thoughts I can think of that go through people's minds in picking a Natural Gas model.
Also remember that you will require a Natural Gas accessory branch fine run to allow the barbecue to function. While there is some variation in price the Comfort Shoppe charges $225.00 for up to 25' of new piping. This includes the complete hook-up with safety shut-off and quick disconnect (which is supplied when you buy the BBQ at The Comfort Shoppe). Although there is an upfront cost for the gas piping the convenience alone makes it the right choice for many people.
So, why buy a propane gas grill if Natural Gas grills are so great? Well obviously Natural Gas is available in high-density areas like in town and subdivisions. Once you get out of town gas may not be run on the street. Here propane is the way to go. While on the subject of Propane Gas Grills please, for heaven's sake, always have a second tank available. The initial cost is $40.00 for a tank filled with propane from us and you can exchange it for $15.00 for another cylinder which is new. Always a fresh clean bottle and no need to worry about the tank rusting out or the refilling date expiring. Your guests will appreciate your second tank and so will you when you run out unexpectedly during the meal. You can also chat with them instead of running out at 7 p.m. at night looking for an open refilling station. Propane BBQ's also offer total flexibility in that they can be wheeled from one location to another making them the choice for picnics. Also some people move the BBQ to a more sheltered location in the winter for grilling which makes propane a great choice.
The amount of heat between the two types - Propane and Natural Gas - is the same so pick which fuel is best for your lifestyle.
